HYBRID SHADE STRUCTURES: VINYL FABRIC & SHADE FABRIC
PART 1 –GENERAL
1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS:
A. Drawings and general provisions of the contract, including General and Special Conditions, apply to the work of this section.
1.02 DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
A. The extent of Hybrid Shade Structure work is indicated on drawings and by provisions of this section.
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE:
A. General: Provide hybrid units, which are complete assemblies, produced and installed by one manufacturer/fabricator. All structural framework and fabric elements are single source responsibility of fabricator. B. Fabricator’s Qualifications: Where indicated units require custom fabrication, provide units fabricated by shop, which is skilled, and with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in similar work. Fabricate all custom equipment items at same shop. Where units cannot be fully shop-fabricated, complete fabrication work at project site.
1.04 SUBMITTALS:
A. Shop drawings: Submit shop drawings for all components and application conditions of hybrid units which are not fully dimensioned or detailed in product data. Show relationships to adjoining work. Provide sections and details at connections and corners. Provided schedule of all units to be furnished, including field measurements at each location. B. Samples: For initial selections, submit color charts showing full range of colors and actual fabric samples available for each awning assembly.
1.05 WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products of the following: i. Workmanship – Minimum 1 (one) year materials & labor. ii. Shade Fabric – minimum 10 (ten) year prorated warranty. iii. Vinyl Fabric – Minimum 5 (five) year prorated warranty.

2.02 MATERIALS:
A. Hybrid fabric: a. Vinyl laminated polyester opaque fabric. Minimum 15 oz. per sq. yd. flame retardant fabric with mildew and UV inhibitors, “Coastline Plus” by Weblon Inc. or approved equal. b. HDPE mono/tape knitted construction. 9.8 oz. per sq. yd. flame retardant fabric with mildew and UV inhibitors. “Coolaroo” by Gale Pacific Ltd. or approved equal.
B. Seams: If fabric is able, all seams are to be electronically heat-sealed. Otherwise, all seams are to be double stitched with parallel runs (lock stitched).
C. Grommets: If needed, Zinc Coated Brass # 2 Spur grommets (6" O.C.). NO GROMMETS SHOULD PUNCTURE TENSION WEBBING.
D. Lacing Rope: Polyester Diamond Braided No. 4
E. Webbing: Minimum of 7,700 lb tensile strength polyester webbing or greater as determined by engineer. Webbing may not be punctured or cut at any point in each individual run.
F. Ferrous Metals: 1. Steel plates, shapes and bars: ASTM A36 2. Steel tubing: All framework to be ASTM Sch. 40 galvanized pipe with a minimum of yield of 50,000 PSI and a minimum tensile strength 65,000 PSI.
G. Paint: 1. Galvanizing repair paint: "Loctite 754" extend rust treatment part no. 75448 manufactured by Loctite Corporation, porter guard DTM acrylic metal primer or approved equal. 2. Finish paint: apply touch-up paint specifically color matched to the tubing.
H. Anchoring & Assembly: Components shall be plated according to ASTM a. Anchoring - Carbon steel anchors shall be RAWL “LOK/BOLT” wedge anchors, or approved equal.. b. Anchoring - Pre-assembled sleeve style RAWL “LOK/BOLT” anchor with a hex head, or approved equal. c. Anchoring - ‘Red Head’ A7 adhesive anchoring system with a minimum FU=60,000 PSI, or approved equal. d. Assembly - All assembly bolts are to be stainless steel. Size indicated by engineer.
I. Cable: (referred to as wire rope) Shall be all 316 Stainless Steel oil free cable. Cables may not turn a 90 degree angle at any point. Must use separate cables for each straight run must be used or approved tensioning fittings for each straight run must be applied.
2.03 FABRICATION GENERAL:
A. Hybrids Framework: Use materials of size and thickness as required by engineer to produce strength and durability in finished product for use intended. Work to dimensions indicated or accepted on shop drawings, using proven details of fabrication and support. Use type of materials indicated or specified for various components of work. 1. Form exposed work true to line and level with accurate angles and surfaces and straight sharp edges. Maintain cross-section of pipe and tubing. 2. Framework Sleeve’s are only acceptable at the top peak or ridge of the structure in an X Y or T configuration and to join the rafters to the upright. A Stainless Steel 5/16” machine bolt must be applied to each member that is sleeved. 3. Weld corners and pipe seams continuously, complying with AWS recommendations. Grind and brush all welds. Brazed welds are not acceptable. 3. Form exposed connections with hairline joints, flush and smooth, using concealed fasteners wherever possible. 4. Provide for anchorage of type shown, coordinated with supporting structure. Fabricate and space anchoring devices to provide adequate support for intended use as determined by the engineer.
B. Fabric Coverings: Design hybrid covers for easy removal by loosening the pinch plate bolts, releasing the ratcheting mechanism or other approved quick release devices.
PART 3 -EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. General: Install hybrid units in manner indicated to comply with manufacturer's instructions. Position units level, plumb, secure, at proper height and in a safe location relative other related work. Securely anchor units with bolts or other types of mountings indicated.
B. Clearances: Provide adequate clearances between fabric hybrid framework and other nearby structures to permit unencumbered and safe usage. a. All fabric and framework is to be a minimum of 3 (three) feet above the highest ‘reaching’ point on all children’s play equipment.
C. Fitting: Attach fabric to frame work as recommended by manufacturer, applying proper tension as required to assure proper fit of the fabric to frame. |
